Senior Adults

Seniors, from 65 to 105, have life, vigor, energy, and enthusiasm for some type of ministry and our hope is that each and every senior adult will 'navigate’ into a ministry that has long term effect on the lives of those around them.

We have long been 'setting the course’ as we have raised our children, and often our grandchildren, and we can impact so many lives with the vision of 'setting the course for a new generation."

Senior Adult Ministries of Woodlawn Baptist Church

Oasis teams are comprised of compassionate senior adults who are willing to care for the frail elderly in our midst.  Care will include friendly visits on a regular basis.

Ministry may include such things as providing transportation to and from appointments, shopping, short outings to restaurants, playing board games in the home, light house cleaning, and possibly some light maintenance.

The heart of Oasis Ministries is to connect a team of ’friends’ who will walk the journey of life with the frail elderly.

Training is required to serve on Oasis Teams. Teams of three or four meet weekly with their senior adult.

CARE AND OUTREACH MINISTRIES (Celebration Saints and Baptist Children's Homes)

Celebration Saints Senior Adult Choir is comprised of individuals (age is not important) who are available during daytime hours for rehearsal and ministry opportunities in nursing homes, retirement homes throughout the region.

Celebration Saints combines with the Kingdom Within Choir of Alexis Baptist Church, and the Senior Saints of Southside Baptist, Mooresville to bring ministry and music to a new level as 50 combined voices proclaim the good news of the gospel through song!

Celebration Saints rehearse on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in KidZone Theatre, sometimes jointly with the other groups, sometimes on their own.  September, October, and November are set aside to learn music.  December offers opportunities to sing Christmas carols in the Nursing Homes, and January through May give them many opportunities to sing.

Spring Tours give the group additional opportunities to sing, as well as fellowship, and have a fun time together.

While the heart of this group is ministry,  they never miss an opportunity to eat, or to have a good time!!!

Our Seniors Ministries supports The Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina.  Each November, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, they sponsor groups from the Children’s Homes who come and lead our morning worship services.  This particular Sunday is one of our Pastor’s as well as our congregation’s favorite Sunday’s of the year and is a great time of encouragement and celebration.

Our Senior Adults then sponsor lunch in the Christian Life Center following the morning services.

In the fall, the Navigators load onto a motorcoach and visit one of the many Baptist Children’s Homes campuses across our state. It gives us an opportunity to learn about the BCH ministries, it allows us to directly connect with the team leaders, coordinators, AND with the children involved in the ministry. This trip has merited pen pals, prayer partners, and opportunities to minister to kids who need to know there are people out there who love them.

In the spring, the Navigators sponsor the Baptist Children’s Home Food Drive effort in Catawba County. Food and supplies (lists are available) are collected, and then a Navigators Team delivers the collection from Woodlawn and from the Catawba Valley Baptist Association to the Thomasville Mills Home campus to be inventoried, and then shipped out to Baptist Children’s Homes across the state.

Navigators have also taken the opportunity to move their own "spring picnic" onto one of the BCH campuses, grill hamburgers and hotdogs, and share food and fellowship with the kids and house parents. It is a great time of fun and gives us the privilege of connecting with and ministering to these kids!

PRAYER MINISTRIES (Salt Prayer Teams and Pastor's Prayer Warriors)

Our Senior Adults place a high premium on the power of prayer.  SALT teams partner our senior adults with preschool and children’s Sunday School classes to pray for them, encourage them, and visit their classes on a monthly basis to pray with them.

Day Trips, Tours, Retreats, and on campus Bible Studies, luncheons,  and seminars give Senior Adults tremendous opportunities to grow in their faith as they study, as they minister to others, as they develop friendships and discover they have gifts to offer.
